How did you get in to SUP? My cousin Dave Kalama and Laird Hamilton turned me on. What was your biggest accomplishment in 2008? Signing with Starboard and turning pro. Who impresses you the most? Jesus, cause he walked on water. Where are you favorite spot for SUP? If I tell you, I'd have to kill you. My second favorite is Teahupoo. What has so far been your most exiting moment with SUP? Crossing the Straight of Gibraltar from Spain to Morocco. What do you prefer, surfing solo or in group? A small group of one or two other guys What other projects are you working on right now? I just started a non-profit organization with some friends called The Ohana Project. Our mission statement is: to inspire and assist individuals, groups, and corporations in giving. We are shooting a pilot called, "A Stand-up World." It is an adventure in surf philanthropy. Our first trip, Dec. 9th, is to Roatan Bay Islands, Honduras were we will be digging a well that will provide fresh drinking water for an entire village. We will also be teaching people to stand-up paddle surf and will be leaving paddles and boards as "good-will". The following week we go to El Salvador for more humanitarian work. I will be performing a live concert for Libras De Amor, an organization that helps fight malnutrition. Two years ago I did the same concert and raised $1500. That money fed 24 people for one year! We're looking to top that this year and expect to make the trek to El Salvador an annual event. If you would like more information on what we are doing and/or would like to be a part of The Ohana Project you can check out our website: www.astandupworld.com What are your goals for 2009? In the stand-up paddling arena, I'd like to be crowned the 2009 World Champion in both the wave and race disciplines. In the musical world I'd like my album, "Black and White Pictures" to be a major success. It is expected to release early 2009. I would also like to see "A Stand-up World" sell to a major network and be able to affect lives across the globe. I would also like to have The Ohana Project gain more supporters and turn it into a world-wide phenomenon. On the home front, I'd like to spend more quality time with my children and build a stronger relationship with my wife. |
