December 5th race results

Hello Starboard Fam,

Well, it's official, Winter has arrived. This weekend both EJ and I competed at Oceanside in the 2nd event of the Socal Ocean Race Series, and boy was it FRIGID! Temps were in the low 40's and I was wishing I had brought booties and longsleeves for the 4 mile open ocean race. Well, within a few minutes things heated up as the race got underway. Ocean conditions were mild, with all bumps coming from the sides so no real chance to get any push from behind. Our NEW boards pick up any bump from the tail so we usually hope for some windswell or anything to give us the extra advantage, but this time, we had to do all the work. The race was short and we were racing side by side the OC-1's,OC-2's and surfski's, a new experience for me, but this is the way the winter race series events are run.

For me, the race went OK. I placed first in the women's division beating out the second place girl (who was racing a 14' board) by about 2 or 3 minutes. I was feeling OK about my performance until EJ asked me what was wrong with me? "Are you not feeling well?" he asked. I was like, "hey", but he was right. I finished 6th overall getting beat out in the last 500 yards by two guys. Plus, the guy that finished third, I beat in training all the time. EJ was right, I lagged. So..... I have to decided to put it into to gear. I, along with EJ, am stepping up my training program and am very eager to kick some bootie in North Carolina next month. Thats all for now.
