4hrs 17 mins was the time it took John Hibbard to complete the 20 mile European Endurance Paddle
Race in Brighton this past weekend. Just 2 minutes separated the top 2 paddlers at the finish
after that had battled flat out for the whole distance of the race from Brighton to Worthing and
back.
John says: "It was a full on race. I was ahead of Elliot Dudley for a while but with 2 miles to go I just let him slip from my grasp. I chose a course further out to sea hoping to catch a few glides on the small choppy swell. My gamble didn't pay off and Elliot managed to pull ahead of me by staying closer inshore, out of the tidal current. He paddled a great race. We were racing flat out for the full 4 hrs and it was a true test of endurance." John was a full 10 minutes ahead of the 3rd place finisher with the final riders crossing the line more than an hour later. The Paddle Round the pier event attracted over 20,000 visitors to the site with many watching the close race and listening to updates sent out over the event PA system. "Elliott is an awesome competitor and it's great to be racing so full on at these events. My next stop is Hamburg, Germany for this weekends SUP World Cup race event. I'm looking forward to another test of stamina in the 10k and 2k disciplines. This time I'll be up against riders from the rest of the world, not just Europe so it will be interesting to see how I get on. I can't wait" |
