2009 24th MAY KAMAKURA YUIGAHAMA BEACH, JAPAN. Class: courserace / slalom / wave / Condition: wave/flat wind/6-10knots Entry: Mens, 70. Ladies 30. Total 100 contestants. Compared to last year. There were a lot more competitors and higher level of competition. Unfortunately, there were not a lot of waves at the contest, and it was just a race contest. A few hardcore participants had special SUP race boards for the contest. I personally used a 12'2 x 26.5 board, I was a bit concerned on how I could do, but I won the courserace and slalom, and the overall champion. It was my first race which I won on a Starboard, so I was really pleased. There was a good mix of entrants, and its good to see young and old participants entering SUP events here in Japan. In addition, despite poor conditions, an SUP can still go on without the need to be cancelled. I feel that the popularity of SUP will increase here in Japan. It sure was good contest, and look forward to many more with Starboard. - Tomo Murabayashi Tomo Murabayashi was not the only Starboard rider who won gold medals. Ms MOTOKO SATO won 1st place in Slalom and 2nd place in Course race. Congratulations to both of you!
